Nick Thompson
Director
City of San Antonio
Parking Administrator
Nick Thompson is the Parking Administrator for the City of San Antonio. His strategic oversight
includes all on-street/off-street parking, technologies, capital improvement projects,
maintenance and administrative units for his department.
Nick probably has one of the most unique life stories in parking – he was raised in it. His father,
uncles, and brothers all worked in parking during his early life. It was not his original path;
however, he always believed he could do great things in the industry. Today, Nick has over 19
years of leadership and management experience in the parking industry with previous roles in
Houston, Dallas, and Austin, TX respectively. He has managed virtually every type of operation
that exists. From garages, lots, large-scale events, convention centers, valet, hotels and
restaurants, to curb management, fleet management, automated equipment, and even a
hospital.
A conference presenter for multiple associations, Nick has been featured in various industry
publications such as Parking Today and the National Parking Association’s Parking
Magazine. Several years ago, Thompson published Building Flexibility in Parking which
encouraged companies to design and develop equipment capable of being more flexible to
operational dynamics. Thompson also published The New S.P.F: Systems, People, and Facilities
which was featured on the cover of Parking Magazine. In 2015, Thompson was selected into the
first 40 Under 40 class and received national recognition as an industry leader. He is a graduate
of Baylor University, an avid volunteer; he is also a member of IPMI, NPA, SWPTA, and a proud
member of TPTA.
